Position: Purchasing Manager

Hours: 7:00am – 3:00pm or 7:30am – 3:30pm
Salary Range: $85,000 – $100,000/year
We are seeking a highly organized and customer-focused Purchasing Manager to oversee purchasing, production scheduling, inventory coordination, and customer order management. This role serves as the primary point of contact for key customer accounts while ensuring the timely procurement of raw materials, efficient production planning, and accurate order fulfillment. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where exceptional customer service and strong organizational skills are essential.
What you will be doing:
Customer Service & Order Management
- Provide exceptional customer service from order receipt through final shipment.
- Process incoming customer orders accurately and efficiently.
- Confirm pricing and ensure order accuracy prior to production.
- Prepare customer quotes based on current material and labor costs.
- Support sales team with the communication of inventory availability, production status, and lead times to customers.
- Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with customers through timely phone and email communication.
Purchasing & Vendor Management
- Purchase raw materials to support production requirements while maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with steel suppliers, plating vendors, heat-treat vendors, and other strategic suppliers.
- Source and evaluate new vendors to improve quality, pricing, and delivery performance.
- Coordinate outside processing services, including plating and heat treating, ensuring all documentation is completed and tracked.
- Reconcile vendor receipts with incoming inventory and ensure accurate recordkeeping.
- Ensure purchasing activities comply with customer contractual requirements, government procurement regulations (FAR/DFARS), export control regulations (ITAR/EAR), and internal purchasing policies to support audit readiness and regulatory compliance.
Production Planning & Inventory Control
- Determine production lead times based on manufacturing capacity and scheduling requirements.
- Enter and manage production orders within the ERP system.
- Maintain and prioritize the production schedule for the manufacturing team, including pin production, blanking, and assembly operations.
- Create daily material pull lists for warehouse personnel.
- Develop and manage weekly production schedules, making adjustments as customer priorities and production demands change.
- Update inventory transactions and vendor processing records within the company's ERP system (Navision).
Inventory & Shipping Coordination
- Monitor stock availability to support customer demand and production schedules.
- Ensure inventory records remain accurate through timely receipt and transaction processing.
- Coordinate outgoing shipments with carriers to ensure on-time delivery.
- Work closely with warehouse and production personnel to ensure efficient material flow and order fulfillment.
What experience we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, HS Diploma and relevant experience will be considered.
- 5-8 years of experience as a Purchasing Manager
- Previous purchasing, production planning, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience coordinating vendors and purchasing raw materials.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to build lasting client relationships.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with ERP systems; experience with Microsoft Navision is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook and Excel.
- Outstanding customer service mindset with a "customer-first" approach.
