Purpose:
The Entry Level Welder/Fabricator is responsible for assisting in constructing, assembling, and repairing metal components according to blueprints, technical drawings, and project specifications. Working primarily in a shop setting, will learn to produce high-quality parts and assemblies to support offsite installation and client projects. This is an entry-level role ideal for candidates eager to grow their welding and fabrication skills.
Responsibilities:
Blueprint Interpretation & Execution – Learns to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to fabricate components to specifications under guidance from experienced team members.
Material Preparation & Assembly – Assists in measuring, cutting, bending, and shaping metal using hand tools, power tools, and machinery such as saws, grinders, presses, plasma cutters, brakes, and punches. Learns to assemble components accurately, ensuring structural integrity and adherence to project requirements.
Welding, Joining & Pipefitting – Gains hands-on experience performing welding techniques (MIG, TIG, stick) under supervision. Materials may include steel, aluminum, and stainless steel (304, 316, 2205). Experience with stainless steel is a plus, but willingness to learn is essential.
Equipment Maintenance & Operation – Learns to operate fabrication machinery and welding tools safely and efficiently while performing basic maintenance and following company procedures.
Quality Assurance – Assists in inspecting components and welds for accuracy and quality, learning to identify defects and perform corrections under guidance.
Safety Compliance – Follows all Company and industry safety protocols, including proper use of PPE, maintaining a clean workspace, and adhering to lockout/tagout procedures.
Collaboration & Communication – Works closely with supervisors, engineers, and team members to learn best practices, resolve issues, and meet project deadlines.
Other – Other duties, roles, and responsibilities as assigned, with opportunities for growth and skill development.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Eagerness to learn blueprint reading, welding, and fabrication techniques.
- Willingness to develop skills with hand tools, power tools, and fabrication machinery.
- Interest in learning welding techniques (MIG, TIG, stick) and material joining.
- Attention to detail and a desire to produce quality work.
- Basic math skills and ability to learn precise measurement techniques.
- Physical stamina for hands-on work in a shop environment.
- Ability to follow instructions, take direction, and work in a collaborative team environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent standing, bending, squatting, and reaching.
- Exposure to noise, heat, sparks, metal, and fumes in a shop environment.
- Must wear PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, etc.
- Ability to lift, carry, or transport materials and equipment fifty (50) pounds or more, regularly.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- No prior welding/fabrication experience required, though 0–2 years is helpful.
- Willingness to learn fabrication machinery, welding techniques, and best practices.
- Preference given to candidates with any stainless steel experience, but training will be provided.
- Trade School Certification, apprenticeship, or AWS certification is a plus but not required.
