Job Title: Controls Engineer
Job SummaryThe Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining control systems used in industrial automation and manufacturing processes. This role involves programming PLCs, programming and tuning AC and DC drives, configuring HMI/SCADA systems, troubleshooting equipment, and optimizing system performance to ensure efficient, safe, and reliable operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement control systems for industrial equipment and processes
- Program and troubleshoot PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.)
- Program, tune, and troubleshoot AC and DC drives (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, ABB, etc.)
- Develop and configure HMI and SCADA systems for operator interface and monitoring
- Interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical drawings
- Perform system testing, commissioning, and startup support
- Diagnose and resolve control system issues to minimize downtime
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and production teams on system integration
- Optimize automation processes for efficiency, quality, and safety
- Maintain documentation for control systems, including programs and procedures
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations
Required Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or related field or 3–5+ years of equivalent hands-on experience in industrial automation
- Experience with PLC programming and industrial automation systems
- Knowledge of control system design and electrical systems
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with robotics or motion control systems
- Knowledge of SCADA platforms (e.g., Ignition, Wonderware, FactoryTalk)
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or similar design tools
- Understanding of safety systems and standards (e.g., NFPA, IEC)
- Prior experience in manufacturing or industrial environments
