Duties
- Assist teachers in implementing lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards such as literacy education, math, and early childhood development.
- Support students with disabilities by providing physical assistance, behavioral management, and classroom support tailored to their unique needs.
- Utilize communication skills, including American Sign Language when appropriate, to facilitate effective interactions with students who have communication challenges.
- Help create a positive classroom environment through classroom management techniques and behavior management strategies for students with behavioral disorders.
- Collaborate with other professionals—such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and counselors—to develop and execute comprehensive support strategies for students.
- Support students during instructional activities, including lesson planning, curriculum development, and individualized instruction based on IEP goals.
- Handle confidential information responsibly while maintaining a respectful and supportive atmosphere for all students.
Requirements
- Experience working with children or students with special education needs in classroom or childcare settings.
- Knowledge of childhood development principles and early childhood education practices.
- Familiarity with autism spectrum disorders support strategies and behavioral disorders management.
- Proficiency in basic math skills and literacy education techniques suitable for early learners.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or disabilities in general is highly preferred.
- Strong communication skills, including writing skills for documentation and collaboration purposes.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team by collaborating with teachers, specialists, and families to support student progress.
- Prior experience supporting students through IEP implementation and behavior management plans is advantageous.
