Duties
- Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT, and DRG codes in accordance with current coding guidelines for inpatient and outpatient services
- Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims using advanced billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Verify patient insurance coverage, process third-party billing, and follow up on unpaid or denied claims to maximize revenue recovery
- Maintain comprehensive medical records ensuring compliance with medical coding standards and confidentiality regulations
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation requirements for precise coding and billing accuracy
- Manage the entire revenue cycle process from initial claim submission through payment posting, including appeals when necessary
- Stay current with updates in medical terminology, coding standards (ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT), and health insurance policies to ensure compliance and optimal reimbursement
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical office settings with a strong understanding of medical terminology, medical records management, and billing procedures
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems and billing software platforms for electronic health record management and billing processes
- Knowledge of ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), CPT coding, DRG classifications, and medical coding guidelines for inpatient services
- Familiarity with health insurance claim processing, third-party billing, revenue cycle management, and insurance policy requirements
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills to handle complex documentation accurately
- Ability to interpret medical documentation accurately for proper coding and billing compliance
- Certification in Medical Coding (such as CPC or CCS) is preferred but not mandatory; relevant experience is highly valued
