Job Summary: This position supports various functions within the Treasurer’s office. The primary role is counter clerk for the City of Rutland servicing the public via counter transactions including account inquiries.
Essential Duties:
· Accepts and processes payments for the City of Rutland including payments by mail, in person, daily credit card/debit card and eCheck transactions, and inter-departmental deposits and other daily functions of the collection office.
· Ability to process daily transactional batches (deposits) including verification of receipts with the ledger in preparation for posting by the Assistant Treasurer or Treasurer.
· Ability to research accounts & prepare accurate and timely responses to inquiries from attorneys, accountants, title companies, mortgage companies and the public.
· Cross trains with staff to be able to back-up and support the following roles: Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Collections and Parking Tickets.
· Assist in mailing of notices.
Other Duties:
· Ability to communicate with taxpayers, ratepayers and other parties doing business with the City in a professional manner and provide taxpayer and ratepayer information
· Support the Account Clerks, Assistant Treasurer and Treasurer with some of their duties for the City of Rutland which may include month-end reports and year-end closing along with preparation for annual audit.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Customer service, cashier or business experience preferred. Ability to learn, comprehend and apply generally accepted accounting principles to the work environment is a requirement.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to operate a computer, count cash and handle checks. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand or walk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision for computer work.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The temperature is that of a normal office environment.
