Position Summary
The Estimator Assistant supports the estimating team throughout the bid and JOC proposal preparation process for government public works projects. This role reviews plans and specifications, performs quantity takeoffs, compiles subcontractor and supplier quotes, and assists with bid document preparation — developing the accurate, well-organized data needed for competitive bid submissions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
▪ Review plans and specifications to identify the scope of work and organize it by CSI MasterFormat division.
▪ Perform quantity takeoffs, compiling quantities by trade including concrete, structural steel, earthwork, and finishes.
▪ Issue Requests for Quotes (RFQs) to subcontractors and suppliers, then compile and organize their responses.
▪ Assist in preparing bid estimates and bid comparison / leveling sheets.
▪ Enter and maintain unit prices, quantities, and formulas within estimating software and Excel spreadsheets.
▪ Organize public agency bid documents, addenda, and compliance requirements (LA County, Caltrans, municipalities, etc.).
▪ Support the preparation of Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) estimates (Class 4/5).
▪ Track bid deadlines and help assemble required documents such as bonds and certifications.
▪ Maintain the unit-cost database and historical project cost records.
Qualifications
▪ Associate's degree or higher in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.
▪ Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, functions, and data organization).
▪ Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
▪ Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and numerical aptitude.
▪ Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
▪ Experience in public works or general contracting.
▪ Experience with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff).
▪ Familiarity with government bidding requirements (Prevailing Wage, DIR registration, certification requirements).
▪ Bilingual Korean / English.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
