About the role
The Assistant Store Manager (ASM) is the right hand to the Store Manager and helps run the day-to-day operation of the dispensary. You'll lead the floor, coach budtenders, keep the store compliant with New Mexico cannabis regulations, and make sure every customer has a smooth, welcoming experience. When the Store Manager is off, you're in charge.
What you'll do
- Open and close the store, including cash handling, safe counts, and end-of-day reconciliation
- Lead and coach the sales floor during your shifts; set the pace and the tone
- Ensure all sales follow New Mexico Cannabis Regulation Act rules — age verification (21+), purchase limits, and proper ID checks on every transaction
- Maintain accurate inventory in the state seed-to-sale tracking system and POS; investigate and resolve discrepancies
- Support hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and performance coaching for budtenders
- Handle customer questions, escalations, and returns professionally
- Keep the store clean, stocked, merchandised, and audit-ready at all times
- Enforce security, safety, and diversion-prevention procedures
- Step into the Store Manager's responsibilities in their absence
What you bring
- Must be 21 or older and able to pass a background check per state requirements
- 2+ years of retail experience, with at least 1 year in a lead or supervisory role (cannabis or regulated retail a plus)
- Working knowledge of POS and inventory systems; comfort with numbers and reconciliation
- Strong people-leadership skills — you can coach, correct, and motivate
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and calm under pressure
- Understanding of (or willingness to quickly learn) New Mexico cannabis compliance rules
- Availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
Physical requirements
- Able to stand for long shifts, lift up to [25–50] lbs, and move product as needed
Pay: From $22.50 per hour
