Rocky Mountain Electric Systems is looking for an experienced Equipment Operator based in the Denver area who’s ready to grow their skills, gain specialized experience, and build a long-term career.
This role is ideal for operators who are early in their career or looking to expand beyond typical civil construction or excavation work into unique, high-visibility projects like sports lighting foundation drilling, structural signage installation, and scoreboard systems.

What You’ll Do
- Safe Operation of Heavy Machinery: Skillfully operate heavy equipment including excavators, skid steers, forklifts, trenchers, and auger/drilling rigs for sports lighting pole foundations and underground electrical duct banks.
- Aerial Work & Material Handling: Perform aerial work and material positioning (up to and exceeding 100 ft) using large crane/boom trucks, bucket trucks, and high-reach aerial lifts.
- Site Prep & Utility Trenching: Dig trenches, grade soil, and clear pathways for electrical conduit and infrastructure safely around existing underground utilities.
- Physical Rigging: Rig, lift, and handle heavy structural materials, light poles, and equipment components up to 50 lbs.
- Teamwork & Safety: Work alongside electrical crews, follow ground-spotter signals, and strictly maintain job site efficiency, safety, and OSHA quality standards.
- Plans & Blueprints: Read and interpret civil blueprints, site layout plans, and underground utility maps.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions on a daily basis
- Lift and handle materials up to 50 lbs
- Work alongside and mentor apprentices while continuing to develop your own advanced skillset
- Read and interpret blueprints and project specs
- Maintain job site efficiency, safety, and quality standards
- Travel to project sites as needed
What We’re Looking For
- Heavy Equipment Operation Experience: 4+ years of experience operating heavy machinery on commercial or industrial construction sites.
- Travel Flexibility: Willingness to undertake daily regional travel, short-term overnight stays (1–2 weeks), and extended out-of-state deployments (30+ days). Please see compensation for more information on paid travel expenses.
- Strong Work Ethic: Willingness to learn specialized installation methods for sports structures and deep foundations.
- Independence & Leadership: Ability to work safely and independently, coordinates effectively with ground crews, and grow into leadership roles.
- Valid Driver’s License: A clean driving record is required (Class A or B CDL is a massive plus).

Compensation
- Competitive hourly rate: $35–$53/hour (based on experience and existing certifications)
- Travel pay: up to 8 hours/day while traveling
- Per diem: $50/day for food
