Door Shop Builder Assistant – Position Summary
The Door Shop Builder Assistant supports the production of high-quality interior and exterior door units by assisting with the assembly, preparation, and inspection of doors and related components. This position works closely with experienced door shop builders to ensure products are built accurately, safely, and according to customer specifications. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and eager to learn manufacturing and carpentry skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with assembling pre-hung interior and exterior door units according to work orders and specifications.
- Measure, cut, and prepare door jambs, trim, thresholds, and other components.
- Install hinges, locks, weatherstripping, and additional hardware as directed.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment safely and efficiently.
- Load, unload, and organize doors, lumber, and hardware materials.
- Inspect completed door units for quality, accuracy, and proper operation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Assist with packaging and preparing completed door units for delivery or customer pickup.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and quality standards.
- Work collaboratively with team members to meet production schedules and customer deadlines.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience in carpentry, manufacturing, construction, or woodworking is preferred but not required.
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure.
- Basic math and measuring skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic.
- Willingness to learn new skills and operate shop equipment safely.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, and woodworking equipment.
- Familiarity with door and window products or building materials.
- Forklift certification or willingness to become certified.
- Mechanical aptitude and basic construction knowledge.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier items with assistance.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the workday.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to safely operate tools and equipment.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures and moderate to high noise levels.
Work Environment
- Indoor manufacturing or warehouse setting.
- Exposure to wood dust, machinery, adhesives, and moderate to high noise levels.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toe footwear, is required.
