Controls Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Controls Engineer to design, develop, and commission control systems for industrial automation projects. The role focuses on PLC and HMI programming, electrical control design, and system integration to improve reliability, safety, and efficiency of manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will collaborate with project teams to deliver turnkey control solutions from concept through startup and support.
Key Responsibilities

Design, program, test, and commission PLC-based control systems for industrial automation projects.

Develop and configure HMI screens and operator interfaces to present clear, intuitive controls and diagnostics.

Create and review electrical control schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts to ensure compliance with standards.

Integrate sensors, actuators, drives, and other field devices into control systems and validate device communication.

Perform system-level troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to restore and improve operation.

Work with cross-functional teams (mechanical, instrumentation, project managers) to define control requirements and deliverables.

Develop and maintain project documentation including functional specifications, I/O lists, test procedures, and commissioning reports.

Ensure designs follow safety standards, electrical codes, and best practices for reliable operation and maintainability.
Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Automation, or related field (or equivalent experience).

2+ years of experience in industrial controls engineering, PLC/HMI programming, and system integration.

Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or other major platforms) and knowledge of ladder logic, function blocks, and structured text.

Experience with HMI/SCADA development (e.g., FactoryTalk, Wonderware, Ignition, or similar).

Strong understanding of electrical schematics, panel design, motor control, and industrial power distribution.

Hands-on experience with sensors, drives (VFDs), communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, ProfiNet, OPC UA), and networked control systems.

Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with a methodical approach to root-cause analysis.

Good written and verbal communication skills; experience preparing technical documentation and working with cross-functional teams.
