We are a large multi-specialty ophthalmology practice dedicated to serving the vision needs of our patients. The ophthalmic technician fulfills a vital role in assisting the physicians in patient care. The technician must be comfortable speaking directly with patients and physicians about medical procedures, be at ease with needles and injections, and be comfortable in assisting in medical procedures. Physical requirements include the ability to stand and walk for up to eight hours per day, the ability to keep arms and hands at eye level for up to 5 minutes, the ability to reach above head-level frequently. Bi-lingual/multi-lingual in Russian, Cantonese, Mandarin or Spanish preferred.

- Properly operates all diagnostic equipment to obtain consistently accurate and precise measurements
- Completes thorough comprehensive exam work-up in 15 minutes or less (includes: chief complaint, history of present illness, medical history, medications, visual acuity, pupils, extraocular muscles, confrontational visual fields, intra-ocular pressures, auto/manual lensometry, loading the phoropter, Schirmer’s test, color test, stereo tests, external photos, angle check and dilation)
- Understands and correctly identifies medications
- Prepares and sets room for in-office medical procedures
- Assists physicians during patient care
- Cleans and stocks rooms regularly
- Quickly troubleshoots and reports equipment malfunctions
- Understands diagnoses and reports most correct ICD-10 code
- Identifies and properly operates non-testing medical equipment (includes: autoclave, algerbrush, forceps, needles, syringes, surgical instruments, etc.)
- Adheres to sterile techniques (e.g. handling clinical and surgical instruments, specimen examples, etc.)
- Properly cleans instruments
- Assists in medical research studies as needed
- Assists in triaging as needed
- Seeks out opportunities to learn new skills
- Uses time effectively
