CIS Social Worker I
Communities in Schools of Greater Greensboro is an accredited affiliate of the national Communities in Schools, Inc. network. Recently, the philanthropist McKinsey Scott bestowed a 133 million donation on CIS in recognition of its outstanding work with schools, students and families, empowering vulnerable students to success regardless of the odds.
Core duties and responsibilities include assessment and screening, individual and group counseling, crisis intervention and prevention, family support and advocacy. The position addresses the varied needs of students, with and without disabilities, who may be experiencing violence and harassment, homelessness, pregnancy and/or parenting, chronic absenteeism or truancy issues, transitioning between school and treatment programs, foster care, or the juvenile justice system. In general position works primarily with students at a high-risk for dropping out of school.
The successful personnel will work strategically and successfully to connect students and families to existing community resources such as the Department of Health and Human Resources, the United Way, Children’s Home Society, UNCG/NCA&T BSW programs, UNCG and bevy of resources and relationships developed by the agency since 1988. The successful candidate will also use creativity and analysis to forge new relationships and resources.
Desired outcomes include increased student outcomes related to academic achievement, physical and psychological safety, improved mental and behavioral health, improved attendance, and social-emotional competencies and family stability.
A minimum of a BSW or equivalent is needed with 1-3 years successful experience in a social work role or similar position working with students and families in the lower socio-economic groups. Essential skills include empathy, communication, organization and critical thinking. The position will alternate between James B. Dudley High Schools and Ben L. Smith High School in Greensboro NC under the supervision of the assistant director of program operations and case management.

Pay: $43,314.00 - $53,000.00 per year
