The Beacon has immediate openings for a limited term Lead Volunteer Services Specialist. This position is responsible for providing direct assistance and leadership with the day-to-day operations of volunteer services provided by The Beacon while performing core administrative duties. Volunteer services include, but are not limited to, the general management of the kitchen, showers, laundry, grounds clean-up, and computer lab areas.

Principal Accountabilities
Administration and Support
-
Assist Manager of Volunteers with monthly statistics and data collection.
-
Oversee daily data collection done by volunteers in all volunteer areas.
-
Assist in monitoring and entering pertinent information on Volunteer Hub.
-
Monitor volunteer area service delivery for quality and effectiveness.
-
Oversee in-kin donation inventory and data collection.
-
Assist Manager of Volunteers with clerical/administrative tasks/operations.
Leadership
-
Provide appropriate support, orientation, and training for volunteers.
-
Act as a primary resource for volunteers by clarifying volunteer area details, assisting with resolving issues, and escalating complex matters to the Manager of Volunteers when needed.
-
Manage inventory of products and orders needed supplies within the program's budget.
-
Ensure working order of showers and laundry area; communicate with the Manager of Volunteers about necessary maintenance work orders.
Daily Activities
-
Acts as a go-to person for volunteers' inquiries and regularly checks in on volunteers during shift.
-
Communicate with the Manager of Volunteers about volunteer program needs.
-
Fills in to cover volunteer services shifts, if needed.
Kitchen Management
-
Manage general operations and inventory of the kitchen and food supply.
-
Ensure proper condition, safety, and cleanliness of kitchen and food storage areas; communicate with the Manager of Volunteers about necessary maintenance work orders.
-
Plan, purchase, prepare, pick-up, and serve nutritious food for lunch service within the program's budget.
-
Manage food donations, food pantry orders and deliveries, and communication with contracted food vendors.
-
Create a food menu for volunteers to follow.
-
Label and date all incoming food products; monitor and maintain food regulation standards.
-
Stock all necessary supplies in kitchen area and food storage areas.
-
Order and inventory kitchen paper products and utensils.
-
Ensure clean and organized storage spaces for food and kitchen supplies.
-
Maintain Restaurant Manager Certification.
Showers, Laundry, Computer Lab Management
-
Maintain clean and organized showers, laundry, and computer lab areas.
-
Stock all necessary supplies in showers, laundry, and computer lab areas.
Other Duties
-
Assists in management and organization of general donations.

Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Skills
-
High School Diploma or equivalent.
-
Holds Restaurant Manager Certification or willingness to obtain.
-
Basic knowledge of kitchen operations and equipment.
-
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
-
Ability to follow directions, organize, and prioritize work assignments.
-
Ability to collaborate and problem-solve with co-workers.
-
Excellent time management skills.

Ability to be flexible and meet the needs of participants and the program.

Physical and Mental Functions

Must have the ability to lift or carry 30 pounds and tolerate medium to high physical effort including walking, standing, lifting, stooping, squatting, bending, reaching, pushing, and/or pulling.

Occasionally bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties.

Constant mental alertness and attention to detail is required.
