Salary:
$17.91 per hour - commensurate with experience

10 month position - 6.0 hours per day

General Information:
Monitors students on the special needs bus and assists the bus driver as directed.
Qualifications & Requirements:
A high school diploma or equivalent.
Must be 18 years of age.
Experience working with children with special needs is desirable.
Current CPR and First Aid certification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Knowledge and understanding of children with special needs.
Ability to operate specialized equipment such as wheelchairs, hydraulic lifts, etc.
Ability to react professionally for the safety of the students in the event of an emergency.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.
Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents and community members.
Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies.
Ability to handle confrontation and conflict without an emotional response.
Stress management skills.
Essential Duties & Responsbilities:
Maintains order among the students, supervising their behavior and enforcing district standards of conduct on the bus.
Monitors students' conduct, alert for emotional and physical conditions that may affect the safety and welfare of the students.
Assists special needs students on and off the bus.
Assists in conducting evacuation drills.
Administers first aid.
Assists substitute driver in following the route.
Operates various types of lift mechanisms.
Maneuvers wheelchairs up ramps, over curbs, and around inside of bus without assistance.
