Position Summary
The Director of Environmental Services (EVS) provides strategic leadership and oversight for all environmental services operations, including facility cleaning, floor care, waste management, and laundry services, within assigned facilities. This role ensures compliance with regulatory standards, maintains high-quality patient and resident environments, and fosters a culture of safety, efficiency, and excellence. The Director partners with leadership teams to support organizational goals and deliver superior service outcomes.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
- This is a salaried exempt leadership position. Extended hours may be necessary based on operational needs.
Salary
Essential Functions and Duties
- Develop and implement operational strategies for EVS departments aligned with organizational goals.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (OSHA, CMS, TJC, etc.) and internal policies.
- Monitor and manage departmental budgets, expenses, and staffing levels.
- Establish performance standards, KPIs, and quality metrics for environmental services.
- Lead, mentor, and evaluate EVS management staff to ensure high performance and engagement.
- Drive initiatives that enhance patient, resident, and staff satisfaction.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support infection prevention, safety, and patient experience initiatives.
- Oversee procurement, maintenance, and utilization of cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Conduct regular audits, inspections, and quality assurance checks to maintain standards.
- Oversee laundry operations, ensuring timely, safe, and efficient processing of linens and uniforms.
- Implement quality standards and infection prevention protocols in all laundry processes.
- Monitor laundry staffing, equipment maintenance, and supply needs.
- Integrate laundry operations into overall departmental KPIs and performance metrics.
General Responsibility as Required for Position
- Responsible for acting in conformance with all facility and departmental policies and procedures including those relating to Human Resources, Code of Ethics and Business Conduct, Health and Safety regulations, Compliance requirements, Patient Rights, Confidentiality, and HIPAA. Responsible for acting in conformance with accrediting agency standards.
- Attends department meetings as required.
- Demonstrates accountability to accept responsibility for personal/professional growth and any required certification/licenses, if applicable.
- Completes mandatory training and competencies annually.

Requirements:
Education/Experience/Training

High School diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.

Minimum 3-5 years of progressive leadership experience in EVS, hospitality, or healthcare operations.

Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance, safety, and infection prevention standards.

Demonstrated ability to lead and develop large teams across multiple sites.

Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Proficiency with budgeting, scheduling, and performance management tools.
License and Certification
- CHESP (Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional), CHEST, or equivalent healthcare EVS certification preferred
