About the Opportunity
Are you an experienced Controls Engineer who excels at taking complex precision automation systems from initial concept to full factory integration?
A global leader in high-precision industrial processing systems is seeking a Senior Systems Controls Engineer to join their regional engineering center in Monrovia, CA. In this role, you will lead the full controls lifecycle—architecting, programming, and commissioning bespoke, multi-axis automated workcells used in mission-critical applications across the medical device, aerospace, EV/battery, and micro-electronics sectors.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Control Architecture & Pre-Sale Concepting: Develop low-level control architectures, schedule estimates, and hardware/software specifications for custom semi-automated and fully automated industrial workstations.
- PLC & HMI System Design: Architect, program, and test structured PLC logic (Allen-Bradley RSLogix/ControlLogix, PointIO, Omron, Siemens) alongside intuitive HMI, SCADA, and real-time process monitoring interfaces.
- Precision Motion Control: Write reusable, structured motion control code for high-accuracy positioning platforms (such as Delta Tau, Aerotech, and ACS).
- Vision & Smart Factory Integration: Integrate machine vision systems (Cognex, Keyence), safety PLCs (Sick, Pilz), and industrial networking protocols (OPC UA, Ethernet/IP, LAN, and factory database connectivity).
- Cross-Functional Project Execution: Collaborate with mechanical design, application, and project management teams through custom build phases, documentation releases, and final customer acceptance testing (FAT/SAT).
What We’re Looking For
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or Physics (Master’s degree preferred).
Experience:
- 7+ years in custom motion control design, PLC programming, and HMI/SCADA software development.
- 3+ years hands-on experience integrating machine vision applications.
Core Technical Expertise:
- Advanced proficiency with RSLogix, PointIO, and Ethernet/IP is required.
- Strong background in high-precision motion controllers (Delta Tau, Aerotech, ACS or similar).
- Familiarity with structured, object-oriented software design principles and modern factory connectivity (OPC UA).
Key Skills: Strong technical documentation habits, excellent client-facing communication skills, and the flexibility to travel occasionally for system installations or testing.
