Material PlannerJob Summary
We are seeking an experienced Material Planner to manage the planning, procurement, and coordination of materials for construction projects. This role is critical in ensuring materials are accurate, cost-effective, delivered on time, and aligned with project requirements. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, experience working with Bills of Materials (BOMs), and a background in construction or utilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyze detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) provided by design and engineering teams
- Identify missing items, inconsistencies, or quantity discrepancies and collaborate with engineering/design to resolve issues
- Generate purchase orders from approved vendors based on BOM requirements
- Ensure all materials meet customer specifications, quality standards, and cost expectations
- Maintain consistent material supply to support construction schedules, including urgent field requests
- Coordinate staging and delivery of materials to job sites and trailers to optimize construction efficiency
- Work directly with vendors to ensure proper material handling, loading, and delivery
- Collaborate with internal teams on production goals, timelines, and supplier coordination
- Track production volume, demand patterns, and purchasing trends
- Schedule and oversee delivery logistics to job sites and storage locations
- Manage inventory challenges, schedule changes, and order cancellations
- Handle surplus materials, including returns, redistribution, or reuse across projects
- Provide accurate material usage documentation for project close-out
- Prepare cost estimates and performance reports as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Degree in business, logistics, supply chain, or related field preferred
- 5+ years of experience in material planning, logistics, inventory management, or purchasing
- Electrical construction or utility experience strongly preferred
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent communication skills with cross-functional teams (engineering, construction, vendors)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and material management systems
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Knowledge of utility construction materials and standards
- Familiarity with customer-specific ordering processes and approved vendors
- Ability to manage multiple project BOMs and coordinate material staging across job sites
Pay: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
