Senior Associate, Merchant
This position is a hybrid in-office role that works out of our Boston HQ (Monday-Thursday will be working in office and Friday is work from home). This is not a virtual / remote position.

As an Senior Associate - Outdoor Merchant, you will lead the strategy, assortment, and growth for Wayfair Verified’s Outdoor Furniture + Fire business across ecommerce and physical retail. You will translate market and customer insights into a differentiated assortment, address gaps, and partner with suppliers and cross-functional teams. Your assortment forms the core of "Wayfair Verified"—our top-revenue products and physical store offerings. You will shape product representation across marketing channels, advocate for the customer in placement decisions, and leverage data to drive sales, share gains, and customer satisfaction.
What You’ll Do:
Build and maintain category assortment strategies, inclusive of developing a shelf space plan and actively selecting, developing and iterating on the product offering.
Responsible for driving Wayfair Verified strategy in owned category including but not limited to: physically auditing and vetting the products in your assortment, creating/optimizing product quality rubrics to ensure a consistent bar when evaluating products
Take ownership of the financial results for products strategically placed on premium shelf spaces. Continuously evaluate performance and adapt assortment and shelf space allocation strategies as necessary.
Collaborate with Planning & Allocation, Visual Merchandising and leadership to establish frameworks and targets for Wayfair physical retail assortment strategies
Collaborate with Category Management, Curation Planning + Sourcing, Marketing, Analytics & Operations, and external Suppliers to ensure the strategic vision is executed all the way to the customer.
Travel is expected for industry tradeshows, supplier visits, and retail-store visits, with occasional international travel based on business needs.
What You’ll Need:
~4+ years of experience within an e-commerce or corporate retail organization preferred. Preferably experience in buying/retail merchandising or retail home furnishing planning.
Strong interest in buying or supplier relationship management careers with a passion for and knowledge of industry trends, style, and product design
Demonstrated curiosity and willingness to quickly adopt evolving GenAI tools and incorporate them into daily merchandising workflows, leveraging them to think critically about the business and apply learnings into action.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and the ability to influence cross-functionally, eager to build relationships with new business partners - both internally and externally
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects at once; you don’t miss the details and can work autonomously and with partners to drive projects and tasks to completion
Ability to “hit the ground running” – a self-starter capable of achieving specific target goals
