Job Summary
DDCA is seeking a highly qualified and compassionate Nurse Practitioner to join our growing gastroenterology team. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to providing comprehensive, patient-centered care.
The Nurse Practitioner will collaborate closely with gastroenterologists, clinical staff, and other healthcare professionals to evaluate patients, diagnose and manage gastrointestinal conditions, develop individualized treatment plans, provide patient education, and coordinate follow-up care.
This position requires travel among DDCA practice locations within Polk County. The anticipated schedule includes approximately three days per week at the South Lakeland office, two days per week at the Winter Haven office, one half-day per month at the Lake Wales office, and one half-day Saturday clinic per month.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including medical history reviews and physical examinations.
- Evaluate, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic gastrointestinal conditions within the Nurse Practitioner’s scope of practice.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with supervising and treating physicians.
- Order, review, and interpret laboratory tests, diagnostic studies, imaging, and other clinical findings.
- Prescribe medications and therapeutic treatments in accordance with Florida law, professional standards, and practice protocols.
- Provide follow-up care for patients undergoing gastrointestinal procedures, testing, or ongoing treatment.
- Educate patients and their families regarding diagnoses, medications, procedures, nutrition, preventive care, and treatment recommendations.
- Identify changes in patient condition and coordinate timely intervention or physician consultation when appropriate.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation in the electronic health record.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, medical assistants, referral sources, pharmacies, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Assist with care coordination, referrals, medication authorizations, and continuity-of-care needs.
- Participate in quality-improvement initiatives, clinical meetings, and practice-development activities.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, infection-control requirements, and all applicable federal and state regulations.
- Travel between assigned DDCA locations based on patient-care and scheduling needs.
- Provide limited Saturday coverage as scheduled.
Required Qualifications
- Master degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the State of Florida.
- Current national board certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Current Florida Registered Nurse license.
- Current DEA registration or eligibility to obtain registration, when required for the position.
- Current Basic Life Support certification.
- Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with physicians and clinical staff.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced medical-office environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate clinical documentation.
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel among practice locations in Polk County.
- Commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, ethical practice, and exceptional patient service.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in gastroenterology, internal medicine, family medicine, primary care, or another related specialty.
- Experience managing patients with chronic gastrointestinal conditions.
- Familiarity with gastroenterology procedures, laboratory testing, imaging, and medication-management protocols.
- Experience using electronic health record systems.
- Experience working in a private medical practice or outpatient specialty-care setting.
- Bilingual communication skills are a plus.
Work Schedule and Location Requirements
The position will support multiple DDCA locations throughout Polk County. The anticipated schedule includes:
- South Lakeland office: approximately three days per week
- Winter Haven office: approximately two days per week
- Lake Wales office: one half-day per month
- Saturday clinic: one half-day per month
Scheduling may be adjusted based on patient volume and operational needs.
