Education – Completion of courses/training to satisfy the State of Oklahoma and National Licensure for Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT).
Experience – One (1) year related experience is preferred.
Licenses & Certification – Incumbent must possess current State of Oklahoma and National Advanced EMT licensure. Incumbent must possess current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications.
Knowledge & Skills –
The purpose of this position is to provide Emergency Medical Services to patients and transport sick or injured persons to medical facilities, working as a member of an emergency medical team.
Work is performed in a variety of constantly changing settings out in the field such as nursing homes, patient homes and hazardous accident scenes/catastrophes, etc. Incumbent is subject to being exposed to all forms of weather.
Work requires periods of highly stressful activities while working with patients in emergency situations requiring bending, lifting, stretching and positioning patients. Performance of positional duties will require incumbent to be able to lift in excess 50 pounds. Driving a mobile emergency vehicle is required.
Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:
If necessary, determine the nature and extent of the illness or injury, or the magnitude of the catastrophe, to establish first aid procedures to be followed or the need for additional assistance, basing decisions on statements of persons involved, examination of victims, and knowledge of emergency medical practice.
Administer prescribed first-aid treatment at the site of the emergency, or in the specially equipped vehicle, performing such activities as application of splints, administration of oxygen or IV injections, treatment of minor wounds or abrasions, or the administration of artificial resuscitation.
May assist in controlling crowds, protecting valuables, or performing other duties at the scene of the accident or catastrophe and may assist professional medical personnel in emergency treatment administered at the medical facility.
