Position Overview
Are you a seasoned heavy equipment operator and natural leader ready to take the next step in your career? RFB Construction is seeking an experienced, safety-driven Erosion Control & Civil Operations Foreman to lead field crews across Kansas.
In this role, you will act as the operational link between the field and management, driving zero-incident safety cultures, operating heavy iron with extreme efficiency, and executing complex state and prime contractor specifications for highway civil, seeding, and structural stabilization projects. You will thrive in a fast-paced environment, bringing a proactive mindset, constructive ideas, and a willingness to learn and continuously improve our operations.
Key Responsibilities & Core Duties
1. Technical Field, Plan Reading & Material Mastery
Plan & Stationing Execution: Precisely read and execute project blueprints, slope requirements, site staking, and plan stationing’s.
Material & Application Standards: Learn and apply critical application rates, seed varieties, commercial fertilization blends, and structural stabilization materials strictly per state and prime contractor specifications.
Precision Tools: Proficiently operate and maintain laser equipment on site.
2. Heavy Equipment Fleet, Load Securement & CDL Transport Operations
Equipment Mastery: Operate company iron with high production speeds, extreme efficiency, and zero safety shortcuts. Maintain operational mastery across track hoes, excavators, skid-loaders/skid steers, backhoes, loaders, silt fence plows, and high-horsepower farm tractors utilizing matching agricultural attachments.
Loading & Tie-Down Expertise: Know how to properly load, secure, and tie down various equipment and materials, including skid steers, erosion blankets, rakes, and silt fence plows.
CDL Hauling & Load Capacities: Operate Class A CDL vehicles (including dually trucks weighing over 26,000 lbs pulling gooseneck trailers) while remaining fully familiar with load capacities and hauling long distances across public highways and construction sites. Transport diverse construction materials, erosion control supplies, and heavy equipment safely to and from job sites.
3. Pre-Trip, Post-Trip & Fleet Safety Standards
Take rigorous care of gear and crew. Strictly execute company pre-trip and post-trip commercial vehicle and heavy equipment inspections—checking fluids, safety mechanisms, pins, structural integrity, tires, and brake systems before and after every single shift.
4. Regulatory, Chemical & Site Safety Compliance
Ensure that all Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for materials hauled, applied, or stored are 100% accurate, organized, and physically present in your truck binder at all times.
Drive a tight, zero-incident safety culture on-site, adhering to all OSHA guidelines (OSHA 30 preferred). Effectively lead routine field safety meetings and Toolbox Talks utilizing agendas and materials provided by the HR/Safety Department, ensuring 100% crew signature compliance.
5. Digital Reporting, Pantera & Timekeeping
Digital Documentation: Meticulously track equipment usage and employee activities on site using Pantera. Accurately document quantities in detail, capture relevant photos, note inspector names, and log crucial observations and material sheets on correct dates.
Time Management: Meticulously log your own start, travel, project, and end times daily, as well as overseeing and confirming the accurate time submissions of all team members within the time-tracking app. Ensure proper coding divisions across Shop Time, Drive/Ride Time, and specific active construction project numbers. Ensure all paperwork is turned in timely.
6. Stakeholder Communication & Operational Leadership
Daily Communication: Maintain clear, professional daily communication with site contacts, KDOT inspectors, and the RFB Project Manager regarding on-site production, milestones, and material specs. Coordinate daily hours and logistics directly with the Fleet Manager for hauling movements.
Culture & Problem Solving: Successfully navigate a high-stress environment with a steady hand. Mentor new workers, collaborate effectively with inspectors and prime contractors, and bring a strong willingness to learn, adapt, and share constructive suggestions to streamline operations.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience: High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 3+ years of heavy civil highway construction, transport, or agricultural earthwork experience (with at least 1 year in a construction crew leadership role).
Licensing & Record: Must hold a valid driver's license with a completely clean driving record and a Current Medical Card. Must hold or obtain a Class A CDL Permit within 90 days (Class A CDL strongly preferred).
Certifications: OSHA 30 certification (or willingness to obtain).

Physical Demands:
Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas and all weather conditions.
Ability to lift and carry up to 80 lbs and push/pull 50-pound loads at a time.
Stand and walk up to 8+ hours per day, walk long stretches of rugged right-of-way terrain, and climb multiple sets of stairs while carrying materials weighing between 40 and 60 lbs.
Must pass a pre-employment and random drug screen.
