Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled or entry level but motivated Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team. Pay will be determined by skill. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of heavy machinery and industrial equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety. Your expertise will keep our operations running smoothly, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with diverse machinery, including excavators, skid steers and tractors, utilizing your mechanical knowledge and hands-on skills to deliver exceptional service.
Responsibilities (Determined by skill level)
- Perform thorough diagnostics using OEM schematics and automotive diagnostics tools to identify mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on heavy equipment.
- Conduct repairs and maintenance on excavators, cranes, forklifts, tractors, trailers, and other industrial machinery following manufacturer specifications.
- Fabricate parts or components as needed using welding, soldering, hand tools, power tools, and fabrication techniques to ensure proper fit and function.
- Replace or repair transmissions, brakes, suspensions, air brakes, hydraulics, HVAC systems, tires, and other critical components to maintain equipment reliability.
- Execute precise alignments and calibrations to optimize equipment performance and safety standards.
- Interpret schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot complex systems efficiently.
- Maintain detailed service records and documentation of repairs performed for compliance and future reference.
Qualifications
- Proven mechanic experience with heavy equipment repair in a dealership or industrial setting.
- Strong knowledge of Caterpillar (CAT) machinery as well as other OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) brands.
- Hands-on experience with fabrication, welding, electrical systems, hydraulics, transmissions, HVAC systems, tire service, and diesel engine repair.
- Familiarity with heavy equipment operation along with the ability to perform heavy lifting safely.
- Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, soldering equipment, and diagnostic devices for automotive and industrial repairs.
- Ability to read schematics accurately and follow detailed repair procedures.
- Excellent customer service skills with a proactive approach to maintenance support.
- Valid certifications in vehicle maintenance or service technician training are preferred; dealership experience is highly valued.
