General Responsibility:
The Outdoor Adventure (Ropes Course) Supervisor is responsible for supervising the outdoor adventure activity counselors and supporting the overall operation of the ropes course and adventure programming at Emma Kaufmann Camp. They will provide leadership to the Outdoor Adventure team, help plan and facilitate daily ropes course programming, and lead initiatives or groups of their own. The Outdoor Adventure Supervisor is responsible for the safety and whereabouts of all campers participating in ropes course and outdoor adventure activities, and for maintaining a safe, organized, and welcoming environment at the course and surrounding adventure spaces. They will collaborate closely with the outdoor adventure staff to develop age-appropriate lesson plans, challenge progression, and program goals. The Outdoor Adventure Supervisor will work in partnership with the supervisor team and will report to the Director of Administration, Business, and Operations. This position is an “in-residence” position, requiring them to live onsite during employment. Dates for the summer are June 1–August 10, with flexibility for time off based on other projects the employee may be committed to.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working in outdoor adventure programming and/or ropes course facilitation
- Experience supervising others
- Desire and willingness to engage with children
- Ability and willingness to accept supervision and guidance
- Ability to problem solve and be flexible as schedule changes, weather challenges, and other issues arise
- Experience working with children ages 6–16 in a recreational setting
- Possess excellent communication skills
- Capacity to work with a broad range of people
- Strong abilities both to collaborate with a team and work autonomously
Responsibilities/Expectations:
- Attend Head Staff and General Staff Orientation, June 1–20, 2026
- Responsible for the supervision of the Outdoor Adventure Activity Counselors
- Review and approve the planning of daily ropes course and outdoor adventure programming
- Support daily operation of the ropes course including organization, scheduling, and camper flow
- Maintain safety standards for campers and staff at all times, including proper use of equipment and safety systems
- Collaborate with outdoor adventure staff to develop sessions that are appropriate for the age and ability of campers ages 7–16
- Assist in teaching ropes course skills, safety procedures, teamwork, and challenge-by-choice principles
- Support the care, inspection, and upkeep of outdoor adventure equipment and supplies (harnesses, helmets, ropes, carabiners, etc.)
- Collaborate with the outdoor adventure team to plan and execute special programming elements (team-building days, unit challenges, adventure themes, etc.)
- Be responsible for planning and executing Chugim programs as needed
- Facilitate clean-up and organization of the ropes course and adventure areas after activities
- Assist the programming team in set up and breakdown of programs, including but not limited to unit programs, staff programs, and signature events
- Be punctual to all programs and meetings
- Be responsible for the proper use of equipment and supplies
- Cooperate with Camp leadership in matters involving rules, safety, and programming
- Set a good example in all areas of camp life; act as a role model
- Be a positive, contributing member of the camp team
Additional Responsibilities:
- Set a good example for campers including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing cleanup and chores, and sportsmanship
- Follow camp rules and regulations
- Keep a clean and tidy cabin and living space
- Complete duties as assigned
- Attend all staff meetings as directed
- Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities
- Manage personal time off in accordance with camp policy
- Additional responsibilities as assigned
