Career Transition Specialist

Position Overview
To ensure that all students who leave Job Corps as a graduate or former enrollee are engaged in a verified job and/or school placement that meets the Department of Labor (DOL), Corporate and Center criteria, and ensure that they maintain verified work and/or school placement and have access to adequate transitional support services for up to twelve months after completing the Job Corps program.
Description of Duties
- Ensures timely placement and retention of graduates and former enrollees in quality job placement activities: Places all assigned graduates within placement service period. Places 83% of all graduates within placement period of 12 months and former enrollees within placement period of 3 months, however the goal is to have at least 40% of students directly placed before they leave the program and all others placed within 90 days after leaving the Job Corps program.
- Ensures that students maintain work/school schedules and take a positive Quarter 2 and Quarter 4 survey. This includes following up with graduates and former enrollees for the entire year that they are in their survey window.
- Promotes job development through employers, one-stops, and state employment agencies; Develops new company and school linkages each month to hire graduates upon exiting the program.
- Provides referrals to and registers all assignees with one-stops and other employment agencies that lead to job and/or school attainment in the field the student was trained in.
- Facilitates job upgrades for graduates as promotional or additional wage and hours opportunities occur.
- Assists graduates with resumes, interviewing skills and job placement search strategies.
- Identifies, locates, and makes referrals to transitional support services necessary for successful placement and retention.
- Maintains compliance with the DOL, Corporate and Center policies: Verifies and obtains third party verification for placements.
- Maintains mandatory contact every 30 days with assigned caseload and documents this contact CTS (Career Transition System) case notes.
- Determines needs for placement services, facilitates upgrades, and promotes job/school placement retention.
- Documents all placement services provided to each assigned graduate in CTS (Career Transition System) case notes.
- Promotes the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors and mentoring students when necessary.
- Attends weekly team meetings with assigned trades and students to build rapport with students that will be on their caseload at separation
- Participates in weekly meetings by working with students on their needs assessment as it relates to transition support.
- Surveys employers with which assigned graduates are placed and provides feedback to Job Corps regarding employer satisfaction.
- It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
Qualifications & Experience
- BS or BA degree in Human Services, Education, Social Science, Business, Communications, or a closely related field from an accredited school; or Associate's degree and two years of related experience.
- Must have a valid In-State Driver's License
- Must have a clean driving record to meet the Company insurability requirements to drive fleet vehicles
