Job Overview
Join our dynamic healthcare team as an Optometric Technician, where you will be the friendly face and vital support behind exceptional eye care services. This role will be cross-trained to each position in the practice- check in, check out, technician and optical.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly, verify their information.
- Assist optometrists during eye exams by measuring vital signs, performing preliminary tests, and recording patient data accurately.
- Prepare patients for examinations by conducting intake assessments and explaining procedures clearly.
- Maintain patient records in electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Epic or similar platforms, ensuring HIPAA compliance at all times.
- Support clinical staff with aseptic techniques during eye procedures to uphold safety standards.
- Manage appointment scheduling, follow-up reminders, and retail sales of eyewear or accessories at the front desk.
- Handle administrative tasks including medical billing, coding, insurance verification, and managing medical records efficiently.
- Ensure clinic cleanliness and organization while adhering to infection control protocols related to ophthalmology practices.
- Assist with inventory management of optical supplies and retail products using retail math skills to optimize stock levels.
- Provide excellent patient care by demonstrating physiology knowledge, medical terminology expertise, and understanding of anatomy relevant to ophthalmology.
Experience
- Prior experience working in a medical office setting or ophthalmology clinic is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and best practices for patient confidentiality is required.
- Experience with optical sales, retail math, and customer service enhances your ability to succeed in this role.
- Background in medical billing, coding, or pediatrics is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Demonstrated ability to perform vital signs measurement and intake procedures accurately.
