TITLE: CAFETERIA/PLAYGROUND AIDE
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School Diploma
2. Adequate experience as determined by the board.
3. Demonstrated ability to assist with instructional activities and to communicate effectively with
students, and school staff.
4. Knowledge of diverse needs of children with disabilities and appropriate special education
classroom practices.
5. Required criminal history check and proof of U.S. citizenship or resident alien status.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent/Principal/Cafeteria Manager
JOB GOAL:
To assist in the maintenance of an orderly, safe and pleasant atmosphere in the cafeteria by helping and
supervising students at mealtime. Should possess the ability to deal with students fairly and consistently,
enforce established rules and regulations as well as deal the with emergency situations.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supervises students in the cafeteria during meals and on the play areas.
2. Reinforces a system for orderly food purchase by pupils, disposal of food waste, return of
trays and utensils.
3. Assures that students are seated in assigned areas.
4. Circulates among the tables during the mealtime so as to be available to children who need
help or to resolve any minor problems that arise.
5. Cafeteria/playground aides will assist in the handling of discipline problems or emergencies.
Informs supervisor of any serious infractions of discipline rules by students.
6. Ensures the cleanliness of tables and surrounding areas. They will assist other cafeteria
personnel as required to ensure that the children are able to secure and eat their lunches
within the time constraints as quickly and efficiently as possible, as well as provide ample
time for participation in the recess portion of their lunch period. Their duties may include, but
are not limited to:
a. Wiping down of table in between and after lunches
b. Clean up small spills if no custodian is present
c. Tidying up cafeteria during lunch including water containers, food on floor, etc., to
facilitate the overall clean-up of the cafeteria by custodians.
7. Organizes groups for orderly dismissal from the cafeteria.
8. It is understood that during inclement weather, aides will assist supervising personnel with
the monitoring of movie or other activities in lieu of playground monitoring.
9. Cafeteria/playground aides will assist in maintaining pupil control on the playground, in the
cafeteria, during lunchtime movies and on other designated areas within or on school
grounds.
