Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED equivalent and dependable with regard to time frameworks. Able to assist residents in maintaining well kept personal hygiene and able to deal directly with issues of resident grooming. Able to travel on public transportation. Ability to write reports. Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs.
Additional Desired Qualifications
Bilingual (Spanish/English). One year experience as a personal care worker or in the field of home care. Valid New York City driver’s license. Certified in basic First Aid and CPR, Food Handlers Certification. Experience working with older adults, formerly homeless, or the mentally ill.
Job Description
This position reports to the Shift Supervisor. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
· Escort residents to/from meetings, doctor visits, etc.
· Assist residents with self-administration of medication (prompting resident of time, logging medication in book, opening container).
· Supervise residents in maintaining well-kept personal hygiene including grooming (care of hair, ordinary care of nails, teeth, mouth, and shaving).
· Conduct daily bed/bath check; make regular rounds in facility.
· Light cleaning of residents’ rooms, bathrooms and kitchen.
· Aid in preparation and serving of food, and in cleaning of dining area after meals.
· Participate in weekly program aide meetings and occasional staff meetings/trainings
· Plan and lead group work activity with residents (e.g., birthday party celebrations, holiday events, current events, arts & crafts, etc.)
· Keep a running inventory of linens, property storage, hygiene kits and record archives.
· Distribute hygiene kits, laundry detergent and other supplies to clients as needed.
· Assist in providing crisis intervention when necessary
· Prepare incident reports.
· Update client attendance and report changes to DHS at census (as applicable).
· Be available to cover other shifts on an emergency basis.
· Take on Acting Shift Supervisor duties temporarily.
· Other duties as needed.
