Duties
- Conduct comprehensive inspections of residential properties to verify compliance with local, state, and federal housing regulations, including Fair Housing laws and Section 8 program requirements.
- Evaluate properties for health, safety, structural integrity, and habitability standards using established protocols.
- Review landlord-tenant agreements and ensure adherence to Landlord-Tenant Law during property assessments and dispute resolutions.
- Collaborate with property management teams to address violations or deficiencies identified during inspections, providing guidance on corrective actions.
- Utilize property management software such as Yardi or OneSite to document inspection findings, maintain accurate records, and track compliance status.
- Engage in negotiation with landlords or tenants when resolving issues related to housing conditions or legal disputes.
- Apply crisis intervention skills when addressing urgent situations involving distressed tenants or unsafe properties, ensuring safety for all parties involved.
- Stay informed about updates in LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) regulations, Fair Housing regulations, and other relevant policies to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Conduct outreach activities to educate residents and landlords about their rights under Fair Housing laws and available resources.
- Participate in ongoing training related to social work practices, addiction counseling, motivational interviewing techniques, and crisis management to better serve diverse populations.
Qualifications
- Proven experience or education in housing inspection, property management, social work, or related fields; experience with LIHTC programs is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of Landlord-Tenant Law, Fair Housing regulations, Section 8 housing policies, and property maintenance standards.
- Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to facilitate agreements between multiple parties effectively.
- Demonstrated ability in crisis intervention and crisis management techniques to handle emergency situations professionally.
- Familiarity with property management software such as Yardi or OneSite for recordkeeping and compliance tracking.
- Effective communication skills for engaging with tenants, landlords, community partners, and regulatory agencies.
- Ability to interpret legal documents and technical reports accurately while maintaining attention to detail.
