As an Estimator, you will be on the front lines, preparing the cost estimates that are essential for our business's profitability and our customers' satisfaction. The Estimator will be responsible for analyzing drawings, specifications, and customer requirements to prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for sheet metal fabrication projects. This role is critical in ensuring profitability while maintaining strong customer relationships and supporting the shop’s production planning.
Key Responsibilities
· Review blueprints, CAD drawings, and technical specifications to determine material, labor, and equipment requirements.
· Prepare detailed cost estimates for sheet metal fabrication jobs, including cutting, forming, welding, finishing, and assembly.
· Work closely with engineering, production, and sales teams to clarify project requirements and resolve technical questions.
· Prepare and submit formal quotations and proposals to customers.
· Track and follow up on outstanding quotes to support business development.
· Collaborate with management to ensure estimated costs align with actual job performance.
· Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend process improvements.
Qualifications
· 3+ years of experience in estimating, preferably in sheet metal fabrication.
· Strong knowledge of fabrication processes (laser cutting, punching, forming, welding, finishing).
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints, CAD files, and technical specifications.
· Proficiency with Microsoft; experience with ERP/MRP or estimating software is a plus.
· Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
· Strong attention to detail and accuracy under deadlines.
· Ability to communicate with customers and vendors.
· Hands-on shop floor or fabrication experience.
· Background in mechanical engineering, manufacturing technology, or related technical field.
