Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for eye examinations by taking accurate vital signs and collecting medical histories
- Assist ophthalmologists/optometrists during exams by performing diagnostic tests such as visual acuity assessments, intraocular pressure measurements, and slit-lamp examinations
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy and confidentiality
- Ensure all medical records are accurately documented and updated using electronic medical record (EMR) systems like Epic or similar platforms
- Follow aseptic techniques during procedures to prevent infections and maintain a sterile environment
- Provide exceptional patient care by addressing questions, explaining procedures clearly, and ensuring comfort throughout visits
- Maintain knowledge of anatomy and physiology related to the eye to assist with accurate testing and patient education
Skills
- Strong understanding of ophthalmology principles, anatomy, and physiology of the eye
- Proficiency in medical terminology relevant to eye care and general healthcare practices
- Experience with EMR systems or other electronic health record platforms
- Excellent patient care skills with a compassionate approach and attention to detail
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure compliance with privacy standards
- Ability to perform intake assessments, vital signs collection, and basic clinical testing accurately
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinic environment while maintaining professionalism
