Compensation: $25.00/hr guaranteed minimum floor ($20.00 base + guaranteed minimum $5.00/hr weekly bonus structure). Compensation scales upward directly matching high-tier custom/wedding cake design portfolios. 20-38 hrs a week.

For 15 years, Violette Bakers has served the Cambridge community, specializing in premium, from-scratch, 100% gluten-free baking. We run an independent, small-scale kitchen completely free of corporate hierarchy, floor supervisors, or middle management. You work in a direct, transparent environment alongside the shop owner and your colleagues.
Your Day-to-Day Production
Our kitchen balances a high volume of custom and wedding cake orders alongside a daily full bakery retail menu including bread, cake, pastry, bars, cookies and savories. We want a culinary professional who steps up to anchor our custom cake decoration program while executing the daily scratch bake.
We value bakers who take pride in their work and speak up if a batch of their work or a colleague's looks off before it hits the case. We don't micromanage or hover—once you are comfortable with our recipes, you are trusted to run your section.
Timeline & Schedule
- Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday.
- Hours & Shifts: Tuesday – Friday with a 6:00 AM – 7:00 AM start time (can be earlier if you prefer). Saturday requires a 5:00 AM start time.
- Work-Life Balance: Closed Sunday and Monday. Absolutely no overnight shifts.
Who Fits Our Team
- Demonstrated Skill: Minimum of 3 years of commercial kitchen experience handling professional cake decorating. (A digital portfolio or photo gallery of your custom cake work must be submitted).
- Hiring Tracks (Choose Your Path):
- Full-Time Candidates: Strong, high-level cake decorating skill combined with broad, high-volume production baking experience (bread, pastry, savories) required to help anchor the core kitchen.
- Part-Time Candidates: Advanced cake decorating and pastry skill alone is highly sufficient—the full bread and savory production range is not required. Minimum 20 hours per week required.
- Note: Decorating fundamentals must already be second nature; we train on our specific recipes, not the basics of the craft.
- Autonomous Work Ethic: You excel in self-directed environments. You don't wait for a manager's instructions; you take pride in maintaining an organized, clean, and perfectly scheduled station.
- Objective Communication: We maintain a peaceful, objective kitchen space. Necessary workflow adjustments are addressed directly and professionally to keep production moving seamlessly.
