Responsibilities
- Assist with intake, flow, and preparation of emergency patients for evaluation and treatment
- Obtain, measure, and document vital signs, oxygen saturation, pain scores, and blood glucose and promptly report abnormal findings to the nurse or provider
- Perform EKGs and other delegated diagnostic support tasks per training and departmental policy
- Assist physicians and nurses during examinations, trauma response, wound care, splinting, and other emergency interventions as delegated
- Perform venipuncture for specimen collection and assist with IV placement and catheterization under direct supervision
- Transport patients and assist with admissions, discharges, and transfers
- Prepare and clean treatment rooms, stretchers, and equipment between patient use
- Accurately document all assigned care, procedures, and observations in the medical record in a timely manner
- Follow infection prevention practices, HIPAA regulations, and hospital policies at all times
- Promote a positive patient and family experience through respectful and compassionate care
Requirements
- Proven experience working in hospital settings or emergency rooms as an ER technician or similar role
- Knowledge of human physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology essential for effective patient care
- Skilled in IV insertion, venipuncture (blood draws), phlebotomy, and catheterization techniques
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required; additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) are a plus
- Familiarity with aseptic technique, suturing procedures, and acute care protocols necessary for high-quality emergency response
- Strong understanding of vital signs assessment and monitoring to detect patient deterioration early
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with medical teams and provide reassurance to patients
