Job Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented CNC Set Up Operator to join our dynamic manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing, programming, and setting up CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines to produce precision parts efficiently and accurately. Your expertise will ensure that production runs smoothly, quality standards are met, and safety protocols are followed. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with advanced machining equipment and contribute to innovative manufacturing processes in a fast-paced environment.
Duties
- Read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) specifications to determine machining requirements.
- Program CNC machines using CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software and modify existing programs as needed for optimal performance.
- Set up CNC milling machines and CNC lathes, including installing tooling, fixtures, and workpieces with precision using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
- Operate CNC equipment such as Fanuc controllers, ensuring proper machine calibration and alignment for high-quality output.
- Conduct thorough machine inspections before production runs, checking tooling condition and verifying dimensions with precision tools.
- Troubleshoot machining issues related to electrical discharge machining (EDM), tooling wear, or mechanical faults; make adjustments to maintain quality standards.
- Maintain detailed documentation of setup procedures, machine parameters, and inspection results in compliance with lean manufacturing principles.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other mechanical tools for machine maintenance or assembly tasks when necessary.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by participating in process reviews and implementing best practices for tooling management and machining efficiency.
Experience
- Proven experience operating CNC milling machines and CNC lathes in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of CNC programming languages such as G-code; experience with CAM software like SolidWorks or CAD programs is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with blueprint reading, GD&T standards, and mechanical drawings to ensure precise machining operations.
- Hands-on experience with electrical discharge machining (EDM), tooling setup, and calibration procedures.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
- Basic math skills necessary for calculating dimensions, tolerances, and machine offsets accurately.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles to promote efficiency and waste reduction on the shop floor.
- Mechanical aptitude combined with the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues quickly; welding experience is a plus.
- Valid certification or training in CNC operation or related fields is preferred but not mandatory; willingness to learn new skills is essential. Join us as a CNC Set Up Operator and become an integral part of our innovative manufacturing team! Your expertise will drive quality production while supporting continuous improvement efforts in a vibrant work environment committed to excellence.
