BJE Poultry is looking for Herd and Load Crew Leads to join their New Oxford, PA, turkey herd and load crew. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age. The main duties and responsibilities are listed below:
· Responsible for herd and load crews that are catching and loading poultry according to Poultry Handling Training guidelines.
· Operates company vehicle in a professional, safe, and courteous manner.
· Ensures delivery vehicles are clean and in good working condition.
· Ensures that herd and load crews are following all Biosecurity and Animal Welfare protocols.
· Maintains an inventory of equipment and PPE in the truck for the crew.
· Helps with herding and loading of poultry as needed.
· Monitors the herd and load crew’s PTO time and ensures adequate coverage for day-to-day operations.
· Trains all incoming herd and loaders.
· Performs daily maintenance checks by conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections of truck and reports malfunctions to management.
· Completes service reports of herd and load crews, coaching opportunities where necessary, and submitting reports to the logistics management team.
· Moves equipment from one location to another, manually, or using trucks or carts as needed.
· Inspects and maintains department herding and loading equipment to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects and works with maintenance to ensure timely repairs and improvements.
· Examines animals to detect illness, injury, or disease, and to check physical characteristics, as well as training crew members to do the same.
· Runs, maneuvers, navigates, or drives vehicles or mechanized equipment.
· Provides information to managers, co-workers, subordinates, contractors, and customers by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
· Monitors environmental concerns that can create animal welfare or crew safety concerns such as inclement weather, heat, etc., and works with logistics management team to adjust loading schedules as necessary.
· Identifies the educational and training needs of subordinates and encourages growth.
· Develops specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.
· Provides guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
· Maintains a DOT (non-CDL) medical card.
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Five years related experience and/or training.
· Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements:
· Prolonged periods sitting, standing, and walking.
. Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
· Must be able to lift 50 plus pounds at a time.
· Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
