Engineering – Automation Engineer III
This position is contract (W2) until July 2027, with potential to be extended.
Position Overview
The Automation Engineer III will join the Transmission SCADA and Automation team and support the development, implementation, and maintenance of transmission automation systems. This role requires strong technical knowledge of SCADA systems, substation automation, intelligent electronic devices, and networking.
Work Location and Schedule
This is an on-site position requiring attendance five days per week at the South Service Center.
Essential Functions
- Perform Transmission SCADA activities, including programming Remote Terminal Units, developing point lists, system configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Support automation initiatives, including connecting substations through IP-based networks.
- Develop, implement, and maintain substation Intelligent Electronic Device management solutions.
- Create scripts and automation tools to improve system functionality and operational efficiency.
- Troubleshoot SCADA, communications, networking, and substation automation issues.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, information technology, and compliance teams.
- Develop and implement technical standards, best practices, procedures, and innovative automation solutions.
- Support compliance requirements and ensure systems meet applicable engineering and operational standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology from an ABET-accredited institution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two to five years of experience within the electric utility industry.
- Experience working with protective relays, Remote Terminal Units, gateways, or similar smart-grid devices.
- Experience with distribution or transmission protection and control systems.
- Relay testing experience.
- Familiarity with Intelligent Electronic Device management solutions.
- Knowledge of substation IP connectivity, communications systems, and related networking technologies.
Pay: $55.00 - $60.00 per hour
