LKN Family Law is seeking a new or recent law school graduate to join our growing team in Cornelius, North Carolina as an Associate Attorney. We are looking for a North Carolina–licensed attorney with a genuine interest in family law who is motivated, organized, and excels at client communication.
This position is built for someone starting their career. You will not be handed a full caseload on day one — you'll ramp up gradually with structured mentorship, direct shadowing of experienced attorneys, and hands-on training in both the legal and interpersonal sides of family law practice. We believe strong mentorship is essential not just to building excellent legal skills, but to developing the client service and time management habits that lead to a sustainable, long-term legal career.
The right candidate is someone who wants to grow — over time — into independently managing cases from intake through resolution, while maintaining professionalism and compassion for clients navigating difficult life circumstances.
Responsibilities
● Learn and progressively take on family law case management, from intake through resolution, with senior attorney support and oversight
● Communicate effectively with clients and opposing counsel
● Build rapport and trust with prospective clients during consultations
● Develop strong organizational and time management habits while building an active caseload
● Work collaboratively with our team while developing toward independent case management
Ideal Candidate
● Licensed to practice law in North Carolina (or awaiting bar results/admission)
● Strong interest in family law
● Self-motivated and solution-oriented
● Excellent interpersonal and client communication skills
● Willing to learn to meet with prospective clients and help convert consultations into active cases
● Able to work independently while contributing to a team-focused environment
● Comfortable working in a paperless, technology-driven practice
● Eager to develop litigation and negotiation skills, including courtroom experience and settlement advocacy
● Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to explain complex legal concepts in a clear, compassionate manner
● Willing to learn to manage a growing caseload while maintaining attention to detail and client service
● Strong ethical judgment, professionalism, and sensitivity when handling emotionally charged family law matters
● Comfortable using case management software and conducting legal research
Training & Growth
We take training seriously — and we expect our associates to take their own development just as seriously. New associates work directly alongside experienced family law attorneys, with a gradual increase in caseload responsibility as skills and confidence build. We invest in your development through hands-on mentorship, ongoing feedback, and support toward developing your own practice and client base over time. In return, we're looking for someone who shows real initiative and motivation to grow their legal skills and knowledge, not just someone looking to coast through training.
Compensation & Benefits
● Guaranteed base salary plus uncapped monthly commission based on collected billings
● First-year associates typically earn approximately $95,000+ annually
● Unlimited time off policy
● 100% employer-paid medical, dental, vision, and life insurance
● Paid parental leave
● Retirement plan with company match
● Casual work attire and flexible working hours
Our Culture
Culture fit matters to us. We're looking for a hard-working team player who values professionalism, collaboration, and delivering exceptional client service — and who wants to build a career, not just take a job.
