DAY TEAM MEMBER (Part-Time)
Pay: $16.00–$18.00 per hour (DOE)
Schedule: Friday - Sunday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Job Description
As a vital part of our dedicated team, the Day Team Member delivers exceptional hospitality, support, and compassionate care to the most vulnerable members of our community. Interfaith Sanctuary operates with a low-barrier approach, welcoming individuals from all backgrounds regardless of race, religion, nationality, gender identity, or sexual orientation. We strive to create a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for individuals experiencing homelessness, including those living with mental health challenges and substance use disorders.
The Day Team Member plays an essential role in the daily operations of the shelter by providing guest support, maintaining a safe and welcoming environment, assisting with admissions, completing operational tasks, and helping ensure the shelter functions smoothly throughout the day.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome guests with dignity, respect, and compassion while providing excellent customer service.
- Assist with guest intake, assign beds and lockers, and distribute linens, hygiene items, and other supplies.
- Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment for guests while modeling professional boundaries at all times.
- Monitor guest activities and complete regular walkthroughs of sleeping areas, common spaces, restrooms, and outdoor areas to ensure safety and compliance with shelter policies.
- Utilize positive behavioral management techniques, including verbal de-escalation and conflict resolution.
- Collaborate with teammates and other departments to resolve concerns and maintain a safe, respectful shelter environment.
- Enforce shelter policies consistently, fairly, and professionally.
- Complete detailed shift reports, incident reports, and other required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Support daily shelter operations by maintaining clean, organized, and well-stocked common areas.
- Assist with meal service, kitchen support, laundry, donations, warehouse organization, or other operational duties as assigned.
- Help prepare the shelter for evening operations by ensuring supplies, guest areas, and workspaces are organized and ready.
- Provide a welcoming and secure environment for guests, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission and daily operations of Interfaith Sanctuary.
Knowledge and Skills
- Team-oriented with a strong commitment to serving individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Willingness to assist wherever needed and contribute to a collaborative work environment.
- Personable, compassionate, and able to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental illness, addiction, or trauma is preferred.
- Demonstrates sound judgment and the ability to de-escalate difficult situations calmly and respectfully.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and remain composed in a fast-paced environment.
- Consistently communicates and enforces shelter policies and procedures.
- Comfortable using telephones, computers, email, and basic office equipment.
- Maintains professionalism, emotional stability, and good judgment during emergencies and stressful situations.
- Ability to establish and maintain healthy professional boundaries with guests.
