Position Summary
The Church Pianist serves as a vital member of the worship ministry by providing music that supports congregational singing and glorifies God. The pianist works closely with the Pastor and Music Director to help plan and lead worship that is Christ-centered, biblically faithful, and appropriate for the congregation.
Primary Responsibilities:
Worship Services
- Play piano for Sunday morning worship services.
- Accompany congregational hymns, special music, and other elements of worship.
- Arrive at least 30 minutes before worship for preparation.
Rehearsal
- Practice music in advance of each worship service.
- Rehearse with vocalists or instrumentalists as needed.
Worship Planning
- Work cooperatively with the Pastor and Music Director in selecting music that supports the sermon and Scripture.
- Be willing to learn new hymns and musical arrangements as needed.
- Help introduce new congregational music gradually and thoughtfully when requested.
Special Services
Provide music for special worship services, including:
- Christmas Eve
- Holy Week & Easter
- Other special worship services as scheduled
Qualifications
- Demonstrate a growing Christian faith and a servant's heart.
- Be proficient in piano accompaniment and able to read music.
- Be dependable, prepared, and punctual.
- Demonstrate flexibility in musical style and repertoire.
- Support the mission, vision, and leadership of Falling Water Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience accompanying congregational worship.
Schedule
Expected commitment includes:
- Sunday morning worship
- Reasonable preparation time throughout the week
- Special worship services throughout the church year
Compensation
Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications and will be determined by the Session.
Introductory Period
Employment will begin with a 90-day introductory period. During this time, both the church and the pianist will have the opportunity to determine whether the position is a good mutual fit before continuing employment.
Pay: From $75.00 per hour
