Independent Contractor | $75–$100/Hour | U.S.-Based | Up to 100% Travel
An established U.S. industrial automation company is seeking experienced Field Service Technicians / Independent Contractors to install automated equipment at customer locations throughout the United States.
This is a travel-based subcontract opportunity for technicians who are mechanically and electrically skilled, enjoy troubleshooting, and are comfortable working independently in the field.
Candidates may live anywhere in the United States but should reside within approximately 60–90 minutes of a major commercial airport.
Compensation & Travel
- Field/working time: $75–$100/hour

What You'll Do
- Mechanical install of automated equipment.
- Install electrical components/devices of the automated equipment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control-system issues.
- Diagnose problems using drawings, schematics, meters, and diagnostic tools.
- Work with motors, sensors, switches, belts, bearings, pneumatics, VFDs, and other electromechanical components.
- Communicate directly with customers and remote technical support.
- Complete installation reports.
What We're Looking For
Experience with one or more of the following is preferred:
- Industrial automation
- Field service
- Automated equipment installation
- Conveyor or material-handling systems
- Electromechanical equipment
- Packaging or manufacturing equipment
- Industrial maintenance
- Electrical troubleshooting
- Pneumatics
- Motors, sensors, and VFDs
PLC troubleshooting experience is a plus but not required.
Candidates should have strong mechanical aptitude, electrical troubleshooting skills, a valid driver's license, and the ability to work independently at customer locations.
Travel Requirements
This position requires extensive U.S. travel, up to 100% depending on project schedules and customer needs.
Assignments may range from multi-day or multi-week installation projects. Candidates must be comfortable with frequent air travel, hotel stays, occasional weekend work, and changing project schedules.
Contractor Status
This is an independent contractor/subcontract position, not a traditional employee position.
Field work is compensated at $75–$100/hour, with travel time compensated at $37.50–$50/hour. Approved airfare, hotels, rental vehicles/ground transportation, and meals/per diem are reimbursed according to project travel guidelines.
