Overview
St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Parish in Germantown, Philadelphia is seeking a part-time Ensemble Choir Director (10–20 hours/week) to lead music for 9am Sunday liturgies and major annual celebrations (including the Triduum, Christmas, and holy days of obligation). The Director also oversees music ministry for the 4:00 Saturday vigil Mass, supplementing volunteer accompanists as needed. The role involves directing weekly rehearsals, attending monthly Liturgy Council meetings, and coordinating with other music ministers. Ideal candidates will have 3–5+ years of liturgical music experience, proficiency in piano, voice, and conducting, and familiarity with Catholic liturgical music publications (Gather Comprehensive, Lead Me Guide Me, and African American Heritage Hymnal).

Duties
- Lead weekly rehearsals, ensuring all choir members are engaged and prepared for performances
- Select appropriate and uplifting music that aligns with the organization’s spiritual themes and community needs
- Conduct vocal training sessions to improve singers’ technique, pitch, and overall performance quality
- Manage musical productions from planning to execution, including scheduling performances and coordinating logistics
- Read sheet music fluently to guide rehearsals and performances with clarity and confidence
- Foster a positive, inclusive environment that encourages mentorship and personal growth among choir members
- Communicate effectively with choir members, staff, and congregation to ensure smooth coordination of events and rehearsals
Experience
- Proven experience in teaching or directing choirs or vocal groups within a nonprofit faith-based organization
- Strong background in managing musical productions from start to finish
- Skilled in vocal training techniques with the ability to mentor singers of varying skill levels
- Proficient in reading sheet music and selecting appropriate repertoire for diverse audiences
- Demonstrated leadership qualities with excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate others
- Prior experience in nonprofit or faith-based settings is highly desirable
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining enthusiasm and professionalism
