As a Driller-Hydraulic Rock Drill, you will travel to different job sites within the tri-state area and work on our commercial and residential projects. The Driller is responsible for operating hydraulic drilling equipment to drill holes in rock and other earth surfaces, maintenance of the machine and tools associated, and completing the drilling project to the highest standard of quality. The Driller should have a good understanding of explosives and blasting techniques as well.
- Applicants should have minimum 2 years experience operating a Hydraulic Rock Drill on excavation/construction job sites.
- Skilled in knowledge of soil or rock conditions to determine what types of bits and drill steel are needed to do the job, as well as replacing them when needed.
- Check and verify the positions and depth of boring locations prior to drilling to determine if it is safe to proceed.
- Drill or bore holes in rock for blasting or breaking rock for excavation sites.
- Working knowledge of rock and soil conditions and how they apply to drilling.
- Able to monitor drilling operations and assess drilling conditions and determine need to adjust drilling or alter the equipment as needed. Check gauges and pay close attention to the equipment at all times.
- Regulate the downward pressure, air pressure, rotary speed, and change procedures and settings as needed depending on the individual job site requirements and the material type the drill is moving through.
- Basic working knowledge of mechanics as related to rock drills, and able to perform and document maintenance and basic repairs to equipment. Responsible for general upkeep and conditions of the drill.
- General knowledge of materials, terms and practices used in the excavation/construction field.
- Able to operate tools, drill, machine, gauge quickly, repeatedly, steadily and in coordination for safety and efficiency.
- Able to work in a physically demanding position involving strenuous, repetitive motions in all types of weather and environmental conditions.
- Able to work independently as well as with a team, and take direction from the job superintendent, project manager, and blaster in charge.
- The Driller ensures that the drill is properly set up, operated in a safe and efficient manner, and adhere to all relevant safety procedures and regulations at all times.
- Able to identify and assess any safety hazards that may be associated with the drilling process and work toward safe solutions.
- A valid drivers license with a good driving record and reliable transportation is required. CDL license with current medical certification is a plus, but is not a requirement.
- The work of the Driller is performed in an outside work environment that is distracting with loud noise levels.
- While operating the Drill the employee may be exposed to hazardous heavy equipment, moving mechanical parts, noise, vibrations, as well as inclement outdoor weather conditions.
