Aftercare Teacher
Little Nestlings Early Learning Center — West Linn, Oregon
Part-Time | Monday–Friday, 2:00–5:00 PM
Little Nestlings Early Learning Center is looking for a warm, energetic, and dependable Aftercare Teacher to join our growing team!
Little Nestlings is a Reggio Emilia-inspired, play-based preschool serving children ages 3–5. Our aftercare program extends the same relationship-centered philosophy into the afternoon, giving children time for open-ended play, outdoor exploration, creativity, connection, and relaxed transitions after their school day.
About the Role
Our Aftercare Teacher will take the lead in our afternoon program from 2:00–5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
This is a teaching role—not simply a childcare position. The teacher will be responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and welcoming afternoon environment and must be qualified to independently lead a group of children when there are 10 children or fewer in the room.
Responsibilities include:
- Independently leading the aftercare group.
- Supporting children's social-emotional needs and peer relationships.
- Facilitating open-ended, play-based activities.
- Offering art, building, dramatic play, sensory, and other hands-on experiences.
- Supporting outdoor play and exploration.
- Helping children transition calmly from the school day into aftercare.
- Maintaining a safe, welcoming, and well-organized environment.
- Communicating with families at pickup.
- Collaborating with the Director and other teachers.
- Following Little Nestlings' philosophy, safety procedures, and licensing requirements.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is:
- Qualified to independently lead a group of preschool children in accordance with Oregon licensing requirements.
- Able to independently lead a classroom when the group size is 10 children or fewer.
- Current on a valid Oregon CBR (Central Background Registry).
- Experienced working with preschool-aged children.
- Dependable, punctual, and comfortable taking responsibility for a group.
- Warm, playful, patient, and responsive.
- Comfortable supporting children's social-emotional development.
- Creative and able to engage children without relying on screens or worksheets.
- A collaborative team member who communicates well with other teachers and leadership.
Experience with the Reggio Emilia approach, emergent curriculum, or play-based learning is a strong bonus.
Schedule
Monday–Friday, 2:00–5:00 PM
This position is ideal for someone looking for a consistent afternoon teaching schedule who enjoys building meaningful relationships with children and creating a fun, engaging end to their school day.
