The Wrestling Coach is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the district’s interscholastic Wrestling program. The primary purpose of this position is to instruct student‑athletes in the fundamental skills, rules, strategies, and teamwork associated with Wrestling while promoting sportsmanship, discipline, personal growth, and academic success in accordance with district policies and governing athletic association regulations.
- High school diploma or GED required
- College coursework or degree in education, physical education, or a related field preferred
- Previous Wrestling coaching and/or competitive playing experience preferred
- Knowledge of Wrestling rules, strategies, skill development, and conditioning techniques
- Completion of required coaching certifications and training courses established by the district and governing athletic association (e.g., PIAA), including concussion management, first aid, and CPR/AED
- Ability to instruct, motivate, and supervise student‑athletes
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to promote sportsmanship, teamwork, accountability, and positive student conduct
- Commitment to student safety, injury prevention, and proper technique
- Ability to work collaboratively with athletic staff, administrators, parents/guardians, and officials
- Must complete required background checks and district‑mandated training
The Wrestling Coach reports to and operates within the district’s athletic department structure.
Performance is evaluated by the Athletic Director or designee in accordance with district policies, procedures, and applicable agreements.
- Plan, organize, and conduct Wrestling practices, games, meetings, and skill development sessions
- Instruct student‑athletes in individual and team fundamentals, rules, and strategies of Wrestling
- Promote good sportsmanship, character development, and adherence to team and school expectations
- Ensure appropriate supervision of student‑athletes during practices, games, travel, and team activities
- Develop and enforce team rules consistent with district and athletic department guidelines
- Monitor and support the academic eligibility of student‑athletes
- Ensure compliance with district policies and governing athletic association rules and regulations
- Communicate effectively with student‑athletes, parents/guardians, administrators, and athletic staff
- Assist with equipment inventory, uniforms, and coordination of field and facility use
- Supervise assistant coaches, if applicable
- Emphasize safety procedures, conditioning, proper technique, and injury prevention
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or designee

- Frequently required to stand, walk, run, and move about athletic facilities for extended periods
- Ability to demonstrate athletic skills and movements specific to the sport

- Stamina to work practices and competitions that may occur during evenings, weekends, and in varying weather conditions

- Work is performed in indoor and outdoor athletic facilities, gyms, fields, tracks, and stadiums
- Exposure to varying weather conditions for outdoor sports
- Noise levels may range from moderate to loud during practices and competitions
- Interaction with students, parents/guardians, officials, staff, and community members is frequent
