Responsibilities
- Perform respiratory therapy assessments and administer treatments for acute and chronic respiratory illness
- Set up, monitor, and adjust mechanical ventilation and oxygen support systems; promptly notify physicians of abnormal changes
- Maintain secure airways and perform suctioning as needed
- Evaluate and distribute diagnostic test results to physicians and care teams
- Educate patients on procedures and respond to clinical questions
- Maintain patient charts, diagnosis codes, and billing documentation
- Train and cross-train clinical staff and allied health professionals
- Maintain competency on all current and new procedures and equipment
- Clean, sterilize, and troubleshoot equipment as needed
Qualifications
Education:
- Minimum: Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy
Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of critical care and pediatric experience required
- Registry-eligible therapists must have 2 years of critical care experience
- Experience in the Alaska Tribal Health System preferred
- Pediatric and/or neonatal experience preferred
Certifications:
- Must be registered or registry-eligible by the National Board of Respiratory Care (registry required within 1 year of hire)
- Current BLS required
- ACLS preferred at hire; required within 6 months
- PALS preferred at hire; required within 6 months
- NRP preferred at hire; required within 6 months
- RRT credential preferred
