Position Summary
The Route Supervisor is responsible for leading and supporting Route Sales Representatives to ensure exceptional customer service, maximize sales growth, maintain company standards, and protect company assets. This position serves as the direct link between route operations, customers, and management by providing coaching, performance oversight, and operational support.
The Route Supervisor is expected to lead by example, maintain professionalism, and uphold the values and policies of Helados La Tapatia.
Essential ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Management
- Supervise and support Route Sales Representatives in their daily operations.
- Ensure routes are serviced efficiently, safely, and according to company standards.
- Coach, mentor, and develop route personnel to improve performance and customer relationships.
- Conduct regular ride-alongs and field evaluations.
- Hold team members accountable for company policies, procedures, and performance expectations.
- Document coaching sessions, disciplinary actions, and employee performance.
- Immediately report significant employee concerns or policy violations to executive management.
- Ensure employees maintain professional appearance and excellent customer service.
Route Operations
- Prepare and review daily route plans to maximize productivity and minimize operating costs.
- Ensure all scheduled customers receive service on time.
- Monitor route performance, sales activity, inventory, and productivity.
- Verify completion of Daily Route Reports, Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR), and Driver Log Books.
- Ensure route deposits, invoices, handheld transactions, and paperwork are completed accurately and submitted on time.
- Notify management immediately of route interruptions or operational issues.
Sales & Business Development
- Support Route Sales Representatives in increasing sales and developing existing accounts.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers.
- Identify new business opportunities and market trends.
- Acquire a minimum of five (5) new customer accounts per week.
- Collect competitor pricing, promotional information, product samples, and photographs of merchandising displays.
- Recommend pricing and promotional strategies based on market observations.
- Ensure Helados La Tapatia products remain competitively priced within assigned territories.
Customer Service & Merchandising
- Visit customer accounts regularly to ensure satisfaction.
- Verify that freezers are clean, organized, and properly stocked.
- Ensure products are rotated using FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory practices.
- Verify pricing, signage, and promotions are accurate.
- Maintain attractive merchandising displays that maximize product visibility and sales.
- Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
Fleet & Equipment
- Conduct regular inspections of company vehicles and route equipment.
- Ensure vehicle maintenance concerns are reported immediately.
- Coordinate timely repairs to minimize downtime.
- Verify that company freezers remain clean, functional, and properly maintained.
- Ensure company equipment is used responsibly and protected from damage.
Communication & Reporting
- Report directly to Executive Management.
- Maintain consistent communication regarding route performance, employee concerns, customer issues, pricing changes, and market conditions.
- Submit weekly Route Supervisor Reports summarizing:
- Sales performance
- New customer acquisition
- Route improvements
- Customer concerns
- Employee performance
- Equipment issues
- Competitive market observations
- Attend all required company meetings and training sessions.
- Notify management immediately if unable to report to work.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of route sales, distribution, or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong leadership and coaching abilities.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to solve problems quickly and make sound decisions.
- Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and route handheld systems.
- Valid California Driver License with an acceptable driving record.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to:
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Frequently enter and exit delivery vehicles.
- Walk, stand, bend, kneel, push, and pull throughout the workday.
- Work in indoor and outdoor environments under varying weather conditions.
- Operate company vehicles safely.

The Route Supervisor will be evaluated on:
- Sales growth within assigned routes.
- Minimum of 5 new customer accounts per week.
