Job Overview
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Health & Safety Specialist & Maintenance professional to join our dynamic team. This vital dual-role position requires a professional who can maintain our facility's production machinery while strictly enforcing a culture of plant safety. The ideal candidate will champion workplace safety initiatives, ensure compliance with environmental and occupational health regulations; will be hands-on, highly technical, and possesses a strong regulatory mindset to ensure zero workplace accidents and optimal machinery uptime.

Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety programs aligned with OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards and environmental management systems.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, hazard assessments, and audits to identify potential risks related to hazardous materials regulations, workplace safety, and environmental compliance.
- Provide training and development sessions on safety regulations, hazard communication, emergency response procedures, and environmental health practices. This also includes overhead crane, LOTO, Fork-lift, elevated lift and mahcine guarding, for example.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory/legal standards in production environments, including environmental health standards and occupational health requirements for OSHA and MIOHSA.
- Incident investigations to include root-cause analysis for workplace accidents and near-misses and maintain OSHA 300 logs
- Manage workers' compensation claims process by accurately reporting incidents, maintaining detailed report writing documentation, and ensuring adherence to workers' compensation law.
- Oversee the handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) regulations and hazardous materials regulations to also ensure accurate SDS records.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incident reports, training sessions, regulatory compliance documentation, and audit findings.
- Serve as a point of contact for internal safety inquiries and external regulatory audits related to environmental management systems.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure equipment safety standards are met and that all safety-related maintenance activities are properly documented.
- Preventive upkeep and routine maintenance on production equipment and machinery to include heavy equipment rotators and welders, for example. This may include diagnosing and troubleshooting to fix pneumatic, hydraulic and light electricla machine faults.
- Address general facility infrastructure upkeep including plumbing, lighting and HVAC systems.
- Supervise third-party technical contractors and specialized safety equipment inspectors.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of OSHA and MIOSHA safety regulations, environmental management systems, environmental regulatory compliance, and hazardous materials regulations; OSHA30 General Industry certification preferred.
- Expertise in occupational health principles including workplace safety protocols, employee health (regulatory compliance standards), and environmental health practices.
- Proficiency in report writing for incident reports, audit documentation, training records, and compliance reports.
- Certification in first aid, CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), OSHA safety standards, EPA regulations or similar credentials preferred.
- Experience within manufacturing environments or industrial settings is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with workers’ compensation law processes and legal requirements related to workplace injuries.
- Excellent communication skills for delivering effective training sessions and collaborating across teams on safety initiatives.
- Ability to interpret complex regulatory standards and translate them into practical procedures for daily operations.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing hazard communication, and PPE standards.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot machinery alongside general facility repairs.
