Job Description & OverviewMillis Public Schools is seeking a qualified, dynamic professional to serve as a 0.6 FTE Athletic Director. The ideal candidate will also be certified to teach PE/Health. The Athletic Director leads, organizes, supervises, and evaluates the grades 6-12 athletic teams and student athletic activities. Reporting directly to the Middle and High School Principals, the Director is responsible for the overall administration of the athletic program, including logistics, finances, equipment, compliance, and community relations.The PE/Health Teacher component involves teaching two sections of high school health/physical education, fostering physical skills, health literacy, and a lifelong understanding of wellness.Athletic Director (0.6 FTE): $60,000 - $70,000 depending on experiencePE/Health Teacher (0.4 FTE): In accordance with the current contract between the Millis School Committee and the Millis Teachers Association.Performance Responsibilities: Athletic Administration (0.6 FTE)Personnel & Supervision: Appoints, supervises, and evaluates all Millis Middle School and Millis High School coaches and the Athletic Trainer.Operations & Scheduling: Schedules games, practices, scrimmages, fields, gyms, officials, timekeepers, and all necessary facilities.
Contracts game officials, including those assigned by the Tri-Valley League.Transportation: Arranges and handles all scheduling, rescheduling, and canceling of athletic transportation, maximizing team ride-sharing to minimize costs.Financial & Material Management: Prepares the annual budget request for Principal approval; oversees bidding, ordering, distribution, security, cleaning, repair, and storage of all athletic equipment, materials, and uniforms.Compliance & Eligibility: Ensures strict compliance with all MIAA rules, Title IX, and school committee policies. Coordinates student-athlete records, medical/academic requirements, concussion policy compliance, and quarterly eligibility reports alongside the Principal and school nurse.Event Supervision & Safety: Collaborates with the Principal to organize and provide on-site supervision of buildings, parking lots, and game sites before, during, and after home events, including managing crowd control and medical concerns. Immediately informs the Principal of major rule infractions (within 24 hours) or critical student injuries requiring emergency medical examination.Leadership & Culture: Promotes good sportsmanship, drug/alcohol/substance education, and antibullying/antiharassment initiatives. Creates and executes Student Leadership programs, runs a Captains Council, and organizes seasonal parent meetings.Community & Representation: Serves as the school liaison for the Millis Boosters.
Represents Millis athletics at league, state, and regional meetings, completing all required MIAA and DESE forms.PE/Health Teaching (0.4 FTE)Teach two sections of high school health/physical education classes.Provide an instructional environment that teaches physical skills, a sense of self-worth, and the principles of fair play.Develop and deliver a comprehensive health/PE curriculum aligned with Massachusetts state standards.Work Year & ScheduleTeaching Schedule: To be determined in coordination with the high school schedule.Athletic Schedule: Flexible hours and days as determined by the needs of the athletic program. The full athletic work year consists of 205 days, beginning 5 days before football starts, concluding 2 days after the school year ends, with 13 additional days to be mutually determined by the Director, Principals, and/or Superintendent.Job Requirements & QualificationsEducation: Bachelor's degree required; Masters degree preferred.Licensure/Certifications: * Massachusetts DESE certification in Health/Physical Education (Required for teaching component).Massachusetts DESE Administrative Licensure (Principal/Assistant Principal or Supervisor-Director) or alternative CAA (Certified Athletic Administrator) certification preferred.Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to be trained).Experience: Three or more years serving as an athletic director, OR 10 or more years serving as a high school varsity or college head coach preferred (minimum 2 years of relevant experience preferred). Extensive knowledge of MIAA rules and regulations is required.Skills: Proficient with digital communication and social media platforms.
