RESPONSIBILITIES
A $3,000 Sign-On bonus is available to full-time, external candidates in exchange for a two (2) year commitment.
I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for developing, planning and implementing the Recreation Therapy Program for Behavioral Health Services at The Queen’s Medical Center – Kahi Mohala (QMC-KM), including but not limited to individualized treatment plans, evaluations, therapeutic group activities/outings, and discharge planning.
- Performs duties in accordance with the departmental and organizational policies, procedures, guidelines, and professional standards and principles of recreation therapy.
II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Essential: standing, sitting, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, lifting, pushing/pulling usual weight of 25 pounds, carrying usual weight of 10 pounds, reaching at and below shoulder level.
- Continuous: finger dexterity.
- Frequent: climbing stairs, static gripping of an object for prolonged periods.
- Occasional: stooping/bending, kneeling, walking on uneven ground, squatting, twisting body, lifting and pushing/pulling weight up to 50 pounds, carrying weight up to 20 pounds, reaching above shoulder level, repetitive arm/hand motions.
- Operates computer, typewriter, therapeutic tools and kits.
III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Exposed to both inside and outside environmental conditions. Some exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, fumes/odors/dust from craft materials.
- Work environment is sometimes stressful from patient's physical outburst and yelling.Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Therapeutic Recreation.
- Master’s degree in therapeutic recreation, or other healthcare science preferred.
- Valid, active certification in good standing as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) from the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) required. Specialization in Behavioral Health preferred.
- Must meet and maintain credentialing requirements with the State of Hawaii Child & Adolescent Mental Health Division (CAMHD).
- Valid U.S. driver's license required in accordance with Hawaii State law, rules and regulations.
- Driver's abstract or evidence of good driving record required.
- Current BLS certification.
- Course work in communications, group dynamics and fitness preferred.
B. EXPERIENCE:
- One (1) year experience as a recreation therapist or related work experience.
- Experience working with individuals with psychiatric illness, demonstrating working knowledge of psychiatric disorders, mental illness treatment and recovery processes as it relates to recreation and leisure.
