Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Scrap Yard Supervisor to lead our scrap yard operations with energy and precision. In this vital role, you will oversee the daily management of scrap processing activities, ensuring safety, efficiency, and environmental compliance. Your leadership will drive the safe operation of heavy equipment, coordinate material handling, and maintain a clean, organized yard that meets all regulatory standards. Responsibilities
- Supervise the operation of heavy machinery including loaders, excavators, forklifts, front loader trucks, and roll-off trucks to ensure efficient material handling.
- Oversee the sorting, processing, and recycling of scrap materials in compliance with hazardous materials regulations and environmental standards.
- Enforce safety regulations by ensuring all team members use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly and follow safety protocols during heavy equipment operation and yard activities.
- Maintain a clean and organized yard environment through regular cleaning, debris removal, and sanitation practices.
- Monitor inventory levels of scrap materials and ensure proper documentation for tracking purposes.
- Ensure a high level of customer service, communication, and accuracy is provided to suppliers by staff on all transactions.
Requirements
- Proven experience managing operators of heavy equipment such as loaders, excavators, forklifts, front loader trucks, roll-off trucks, and garbage trucks in manufacturing, recycling, or waste management settings.
- Strong knowledge of metal recycling center management practices and environmental regulations related to hazardous materials.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while adhering to safety regulations.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to supervise a team effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of sanitation standards and best practices for maintaining a clean work environment.
- Familiarity with metal properties and identification, recycling, and/or salvage knowledge required.
- Prior experience in scrap yard or landfill operations is highly desirable.
